Not everyone who calls themselves a prophet is a prophet. True prophets are authorized spokesmen of the Lord God, They speak the word of God, straight from the throne room of God, and their words do not fall to the ground, because it is what God said. The Bible state clearly that prophets are given to the Body of Christ today.
This is clearly stated in Ephesian chapter 4
10 He that descended is the same also that ascended up far above all heavens, that he might fill all things.)
11 And he gave some, apostles; and some,
prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;
12 For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:
13 Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the foulness of Christ:
In verse 12&13 the purpose of the the full five fold offices are given.
12 For the
perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the
edifying of the body of Christ:
13 Till we all come in the
unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man,
unto the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ:According to this scripture the prophets are given to the Body of Christ until the body reaches the fullness of Christ, or in other words total Christ likeness. When we look at the Church today it is more than apparent that we have not arrived yet. Even in the letters of Paul we see the apostle addressing major areas of non -Christ likeness, with in the Church.
Jesus gave us this warning in Mathew 24
4 And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you.
5
For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.
There are false prophets today that are outwardly look like sheep, but are inwardly ravenous wolves. They come in the name of Jesus and declare that Jesus is the Messiah, but they in fact are agents of the Devil sent on a mission to steal kill, and destroy.
God addressed the false prophets of Israel in Ezekiel chapter 13:
13 And the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,
2 Son of man, prophesy against the prophets of Israel that prophesy, and say thou unto them that prophesy out of their own hearts, Hear ye the word of the LORD;
3 Thus saith the Lord GOD; Woe unto the foolish prophets, that follow their own spirit, and have seen nothing!
4 O Israel, thy prophets are like the foxes in the deserts.
5 Ye have not gone up into the gaps, neither made up the hedge for the house of Israel to stand in the battle in the day of the LORD.
6 They have seen vanity and lying divination, saying, The LORD saith: and the LORD hath not sent them: and they have made others to hope that they would confirm the word.
7 Have ye not seen a vain vision, and have ye not spoken a lying divination, whereas ye say, The LORD saith it; albeit I have not spoken?
8 Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Because ye have spoken vanity, and seen lies, therefore, behold, I am against you, saith the Lord GOD.
9 And mine hand shall be upon the prophets that see vanity, and that divine lies: they shall not be in the assembly of my people, neither shall they be written in the writing of the house of Israel, neither shall they enter into the land of Israel; and ye shall know that I am the Lord GOD.
10 Because, even because they have seduced my people, saying, Peace; and there was no peace; and one built up a wall, and, lo, others daubed it with untempered morter:
God through the authentic prophet Ezekiel called these other prophets liars. God never spoke to them, so all their words fell to the ground. For the most part, then like now most of the Christian populous gravitate toward the false prophets, rather than true prophets, the false prophets tell the people what they want to, while through real prophets God in his love and mercy tell his people what they want to hear.
The prophets of old were constantly at odds with these propheliars.SEE Jeremiah 23
In Jeremiah 28 the true prophet Jeremiah confronted a lying prophet.
In the writing of the prophets God also give the motivation of these false prophets. They were in it for the cash, they tell the people what ever they want to hear just to take their money.
Then, as now there are true prophets of God. And from what I see the time is soon coming when the Church will see the true prophets, confront the false ones, and only the authentic will be surviving those confrontations.
My heart breaks when I see the fruit of fake prophetic ministry, people that will not accept a true word from God, and perish because they will not listen to what God says.
I have much to say on this subject, from the stand point of being an authentic prophet. The bulk of the body of Christ is falling prey to false prophets because the teaching on this matter has been so bad.
There are so many reasons why prophecy does not seem to come to pass, even when the prophecy was authentic. Most of the times this deals with someone misinterpreting or misapplying the prophecy. I have to go now, but feel free to ask me further questions on this matter. The Lord has been equipping me with the ability to impart discernment to the body that is well needed today.
