The strength of the Church is not in our programs, or our education, or in our talents, but
in the love of our God, and his mercy through the cross of Jesus Christ, our true lives are
in him only.
ISAIAH CHAPTER 30
15For thus said the Lord God, the Holy One of Israel: In returning [to Me] and resting [in
Me] you shall be saved; in quietness and in [trusting] confidence shall be your strength.
But you would not,
In this verse God gave Israel the secret to victory, life ,and salvation.
a:In returning- repentence, turning from our own ways, anything we do apart from God is
defiled by sin, and does not bring life ,but death. There is no salvation with repentence
b:In resting-stop acting in our own efforts, and just let God work with in us, and through
us. The ways of God are the products of his nature and character, the only way to walk in
them is to allow him to live through us. He cannot live through us, if we insist on doing
our own thing. Our own way looks right to us, but it is deadly.
c: The fruit of right doing before God is peace, and strength, stable life. Sin robs you of
this. Sin kills, and sin is to do as you please, in spite of how you try to dress it up with the
Word of God.
In the following verse Israel refused God’s way.
16And you said, No! We will speed [our own course] on horses! Therefore you will speed
[in flight from your enemies]! You said, We will ride upon swift steeds [doing our own
way]! Therefore will they who pursue you be swift, [so swift that]
Israel relied on the nation of Egypt to supply them with horses, to save them in their time
of need. Egypt represents the world system. That God has brought us out of. A place
based on nothing , but human effort. The things of man are weak and cannot support you
in your hour of need. If you rely on the things of the world, and man the enemy will
overrun your life.
Jesus gave us a perfect example on how to live, by reliance on God. In John chapter five
we see the conflict between life of faith, and the life of self effort in this confrontation
between Christ and the Pharisees
JOHN CHAPTER FIVE
Jesus is speaking here:
30I am able to do nothing from Myself [independently, of My own accord--but only as I
am taught by God and as I get His orders]. Even as I hear, I judge [I decide as I am bidden
to decide. As the voice comes to Me, so I give a decision], and My judgment is right (just,
righteous), because I do not seek or consult My own will [I have no desire to do what is
pleasing to Myself, My own aim, My own purpose] but only the will and pleasure of the
Father Who sent Me.
36But I have as My witness something greater (weightier, higher, better) than that of
John; for the works that the Father has appointed Me to accomplish and finish, the very
same works that I am now doing, are a witness and proof that the Father has sent Me.
38And you have not His word (His thought) living in your hearts, because you do not
believe and adhere to and trust in and rely on Him Whom He has sent. [That is why you
do not keep His message living in you, because you do not believe in the Messenger
Whom He has sent.]
39You search and investigate and pore over the Scriptures diligently, because you
suppose and trust that you have eternal life through them. And these [very Scriptures]
testify about Me!
40And still you are not willing [but refuse] to come to Me, so that you might have life.
41I receive not glory from men [I crave no human honor, I look for no mortal fame],
42But I know you and recognize and understand that you have not the love of God in you.
45Put out of your minds the thought and do not suppose [as some of you are supposing]
that I will accuse you before the Father. There is one who accuses you--it is Moses, the
very one on whom you have built your hopes [in whom you trust].
46For if you believed and relied on Moses, you would believe and rely on Me, for he
wrote about Me [personally].
47But if you do not believe and trust his writings, how then will you believe and trust My
teachings? [How shall you cleave to and rely on My words?]
In verse 39:
Jesus hits with some hard truth. The Pharisees relied on themselves for salvation, through their
own efforts of educational activity. They had no actual relationship with God did not
want one. They were over educated, and under revelated. They had been decieved by their
knowledge making them proud.
Pride is a blinding force and in this chapter religious pride blinded these leaders of Israel
to such an extent that they stood before the living Word himself, Jesus, and believed that
did not need him.
Eternal life is in the person of Jesus Christ, not in a book.
Enoch, Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, and Moses, all had one thing in common.
They lived in vital union with their creator, before the Bible was written.
They all drank from the spring of eternal life, who is Jesus Christ, and in doing so still
have eternal life even though they have left this world.
The scriptures were written by dictation, God spoke and men wrote. The only way to
understand what they wrote, is to be tune with voice from which it is written. Outside of
union with God through the Cross of Christ, the scripture is worthless to you.
It is the fruit of knowledge that damned the human race. It is the revelation of Jesus
Christ that saves us.
